Mountain bikes at the ready - the date of this year’s Steel City DH has been announced as May 20, to take place in Sheffield’s Greno Woods.

Retired world champ Steve Peat and friends have worked tirelessly to make this seventh event great, and entries will be taken from March onwards.

Last year saw Steve return to the top step of the podium after snatching victory on his second run. Alongside him, also in rainbow stripes, was Tracy Moseley, who took the elite lasses’ field to pieces in a time that placed her fourteenth over all.

Warming food, coffee and Bradfield ale were in good supply for 2016’s snowy but well attended race.

A raft of sponsors and volunteers have helped towards this year’s event. Sign up to the mailing list to keep abreast of developments.

A sixth element carbon wheel set (retail price around £900) is to be auctioned off on Ebay, to be built brand new to specification in any wheel size and width. Funds go towards building new trails in Sheffield.

Races and sponsors are as follows: Pro-Elite: Pro-Elite-Leighton vans, Pro Ladies-60Sticks, Lads: Ripper-The Cycle Barn, Juvenile-Expert bike repair, Youth-Bike Garage, Junior-Joystick, Senior-Polaris, Master-Hope, Veteran-Hop Hideout, Lasses: Senior-Polaris, Master-THE Industries, Veteran-Bike Rehab.

Others to lend support include Local Legends, Totally Insured, JE James cycles, TADO, Hook It Products, Bradfield Brewery, Biketrack.org, Eighteen Bikes Aline Coaching, Clif Bar. SantaCruz UK, and the Sheffield Wildlife Trust who allow use of the woods for the event.
