Seat’s good-looking city car

THE trio of city cars from three of the motor manufacturers in the Volkswagen Group have been making a big impression in this very competitive market sector since their recent launches.

The VW Up was the first to appear followed by the Skoda Citigo and the Seat Mii which all share the 3.55m long body and engine range and the only obvious difference is the front of each of them.

I have just been driving the Seat model and in particular the most economical Mii Ecomotive which has a combined fuel consumption of almost 70mpg. The little Seat has some formidable competitors, including the other duo from the same VW Group stable. I was impressed by the Up and the Citygo and I feel exactly the same about the Mii, especially the Ecomotive 1.0 60PS three-door test car which is the most economical in the range.

It was powered by a 1.0-litre 59bhp three-cylinder petrol engine with a start/stop facility which produced a top speed of 100mph and a zero to 62mph time of 14.4 seconds that seemed to be quicker and a combined fuel consumption of 68.9mpg plus those low emissions which mean no road tax.

On the road price is £9,180 and the test car had several options fitted including a satnav/trip computer system and Safety Assist.

There was a five-speed manual gear box and there is an automatic available. For a small car getting in and out of it is quite easy.

The Mii has quite a roomy interior and access to the rear seats is reasonably easy although if I was buying one I would go for the five door for another £350. There is also a deep boot but no spare wheel although a space saver spare can be bought for £50 which is a good buy. A set of 14-inch alloys cost an extra £350.

The Mii was comfortable and economical offering an enjoyable drive with a superb steering lock that was ideal for U-turns and is a small car that provides Seat with a very competitive model that has arguably the best looking front end of the near identical three cars from the VW Group.

My Verdict: A fun to drive and roomy city car.
