COLOUR was strictly out for pupils of a Darfield school, when they staged a two-shade fundraiser.
A black and white day was a new money-spinning idea that came from school council members at the village’s All Saints’ C of E Primary.
And pupils welcomed the chance to pay 50p each to leave their uniform at home and ‘go monochrome’ for the day.
Staff member Shirley Sykes said: “Pupils decided they wanted to help and add to the school funds, towards getting more school playground equipment.
“They enjoyed dressing up and we had all sorts of ideas, from black cats to pop-star wigs.
“All together the day raised a sum of over £65”.
‘Dressing down Fridays’ are now set to become a feature at the school, added Mrs Sykes.
Last year, Darfield’s All Saints’ C of E School was recognised as needing Special Measures by Ofsted inspectors. Staff are working under Acting Head Lee Spencer and Executive Head Craig Lee to get the school working more positively.
