SANTA Claus came to Sprotbrough to help a church in its aims of raising money for a new roof.

Parishoners were hoping for an early Christmas present in the form of a major cash boost towards St Mary’s Church roof appeal.

Visitors could tuck into a range of festive treats and youngsters could pass on their present list to Father Christmas as he set up a Santa’s grotto.

All proceeds from the event on Saturday at the church hall in Main Street went towards the appeal.

The church launched a fundraising drive to raise £200,000 for much needed repairs to the medieval church which is a Grade-I listed building.

Thousands of pounds has already been raised through a variety of fundraisers.
