THE 2012 Best Kept Village competition has been launched in Northern Lincolnshire by the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE).

The competition is open to all small towns and villages in the Northern Lincolnshire area and there are four categories - best small village, large village, small town and past winners.

Individual awards are handed out for best kept playground, best kept churchyard, best community planting and best kept war memorial.

There have been a number of Isle winners in recent years, including Westwoodside Playing Field which won a CPRE award last year.

CPRE Northern Lincolnshire chairman David Rose said: “This is a great opportunity for residents to come together to show how much they care for their local environment.

“People working together is what the Best Kept Village competition is all about.”

Closing date for entries is June 9 and judging will take place towards the end of July.
