A FIRST book signing at Parkgate was a runaway success for new author Ray Matthews.

Desert runner Ray’s first book ‘Me and My Shadow’ has now hit the shelves of top bookstores, and is featured on the Amazon website.

His book launch and signing was at Parkgate gym Energie, where he is based.

Among many visitors to snaffle the first signed copies were the Mayor and Mayoress of Rotherham, Coun Shaun and Lisa Wright, and members of the Rowbotham family. The book is dedicated to the memory of Ralph Rowbotham who instigated the 25-mile Round Rotherham race - that Ray accomplished twice over as a 50 mile challenge!

Ray, 70, said: “Ralph’s widow Pat, and son Steven made some lovely comments. The mayor too was very interested in my story. I was overwhelmed by the warmth shown by friends and family.”

More signings will follow at Waterstones’ stores. In June Ray plans a London to Brighton run for Blind Veterans UK. See www.raymatthews.co.uk
