Doncaster Council is making residents aware of diversions in place for the Brookes Run Doncaster 10k.
A spokesman for the authority said roads will be closed around the town centre from 7am and will reopen by no later than 1pm to make way for the May 13 race.
Roads at the front of Town Moor Avenue are likely to reopen around 11.15am.
All roads subject to closures will be signed as will alternative diversion routes.
The Brooks Run Doncaster 10k is being supported by the council and is the town’s first mass participation running event. Around 1,500 runners are expected to take part.
The course is a flat and fast route that takes in the racecourse, Town Fields and the town centre before returning to the racecourse.
There will also be a 2k family fun run on the same day.
Doncaster-based firms can also take part in the corporate challenge. Awards will be handed out to the first team from Doncaster and the workplace entering the largest number of employees.
Peter Dale, director of regeneration and environment, said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused and ask for drivers’ patience during this charity event.
“These road closures are necessary to ensure the safety of competitors, spectators and other road users involved in the run.
“Good luck to all of those taking part in this fantastic event.”
