A major project to regenerate a Thurnscoe estate was shortlisted for a national sustainability award.

The Thurnscoe Alliance has been building up community relationships to promote Thurnscoe, as part of the regeneration of the former Reema Estate.

Although they did not win, the partnership of Keepmoat Homes, Barnsley Council, Chevin Housing Group, Berneslai Homes and community stakeholders including schools and local groups, was shortlisted in the ‘Sustainable Housing Partnership of the Year’ category at the Sustainable Housing Awards, which took place at the Lancaster London Hotel this month.

The Thurnscoe project began in 2006 with the demolition of 190 poor-quality homes, and will see 875 houses built over the next 15 years.
