race for Life has officially been launched giving Doncaster women the chance to put their best foot forward and join the fight against cancer.

Members of the Race for Life team hosted a special event in the Frenchgate Centre to mark the opening of the event that raised £183,000 in Doncaster last year.

And orgnanisers are hoping this year’s event which will take place at Town Field on Sunday, June 24, will be better than ever.

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life is a women-only series of events which raises millions of pounds every year for life-saving research into 200 types of cancer – helping men, women and children across Yorkshire survive.

Women can choose whether to walk, jog or run the five kilometre route. All are welcome, regardless of whether they are taking part alone or as part of a group.

Alison Mackfall, Cancer Research UK’s Yorkshire events manager, said: “Come on ladies – please enter Race for Life in Doncaster today!

“It’s all of us versus cancer and we need you to join the fight as soon as possible.”

Last year, 3,670 women took part in Race for Life in Doncaster and organisers are hoping to see more women taking on the challenge this year.

Alison continued: “We know many women want to take part in Race for Life but are worried they won’t be able to complete the course.

“We want to reassure them that Race for Life is not about being fast or fit. Instead, it’s a celebration of sisterhood and hope.”

Britain’s Got Talent violinist Alexandra Parker has already signed up for the event and is aiming to raise £400.
