The Pizza Pan takeaway on Bridge Street Swinton looked an inviting prospect as I drove home through the drizzle of yet another so-called summer evening.

It has a surprising range of food on offer, including freshly baked pizzas pasta dishes and salsa wraps.

Perfect for a teatime treat or on the way home from a night out.

I called in soon after opening on a Friday and the takeaway was already a hotbed of activity, with telephone delivery hotlines buzzing and inviting aromas from the ovens permeating the air.

No takeaway these days is complete without the obligatory Donner Kebab and the quality of these is often a a good indicator of the rest of the food on offer.

As I perused the menu, my appetite was whetted by delicious scent of chargrilled meat and I decided I would tackle a mixed kebab with fries at £5.50.

The kebab came served on a flat bread with a generous helping of freshly prepared salad, with garlic and chilli sauce as optional extras.

There was a huge portion of Donner meat, which was tender and tasty without a hint of grease.

This was accompanied by large pieces of chicken breast, which had been lightly marinated in spices before being chargrilled.

The service was friendly and efficient and my order was despatched as soon as it was freshly cooked straight from the grill.

The humble kebab has become as much a part of our national cuisine as fish and chips and they are delicious when prepared with care and quality ingredients.

The Pizza Pan mixed kebab comes recommended and there is enough to comfortably feed two people.

And I must confess as a kebab lover my guilty secret is to save some of the the meat cold and have it for breakfast the day after.

I am pleased to report the Pizza Pan mixed kebab passed that test with flying colours.
