ORGANISERS were breathing a sigh of relief when the much-anticipated Proms in the Park went off with a bang.

Hundreds of people of all ages enjoyed a tasty picnic and waved their red, white and blue flags to mark Sunday’s occasion.

Doncaster Concert Band was also on hand to keep people entertained and a raffle saw plenty of cash raised to help boost the funds for organisers the Friends of Sandall Park.

The group said: “Our thanks go to everyone who turned up and supported us at the Proms in the Park concert.

“Against all the odds and forecasts the sun came out in the end and what a difference it made.”

The group also thanked those who donated raffle prizes and businesses which helped support the free event including sponsors Ready, Steady Store, Red Tomato, Olive Bar and Grill and Fake Festivals. Rain had forced the cancellation of Proms in the Park for the last two years.
