HUNDREDS of people turned out to support a polo tournament which raised over £1,000 for a Doncaster cancer charity.

Businesses in the market town of Bawtry came together to hold the event at the nearby Vale of York Polo Club in Misson and raise money for the Aurora cancer charity.

Eight members of Bawtry Retail Association adopted teams in the inaugural Bawtry Polo Cup and they were sponsored by a host of firms from the thriving Doncaster town.

Bawtry’s Crown Hotel came out as the overall winners after beating Robinsons of Bawtry in a tense final encounter.

The cash will go to Aurora which has two bases at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Mexborough Montagu Hospital offering alternative therapies for cancer patients. There is also a shop in Scot Lane in Doncaster’s town centre.
