Plan to move Mexborough-based post office

A Mexborough-based post office is set to move locations in a bid to create a modern-style branch with extended opening hours.

The proposed new location for Pym Road Post Office is Adwick Road Convenience Store in Adwick Road.

This is 695 metres from its current site at Pym Road and the Post Office is now inviting customers and interested parties to give their comments on the move in a six-week public consultation.

The new branch would have three serving positions, a mixture of two modern screened positions and a combi-counter, where the Post Office terminal will sit alongside the retail till.

The same range of services would remain on offer with the addition of car tax renewal.

Should the move go ahead, the branch itself would be open from 9am to 5.30pm from Monday to Saturday.

In addition, the retail counter part of the convenience store, which would sell certain Post Office products, will be available during shop opening hours of 8am to 9pm seven days a week. Post Office bosses say this equates to an extra 45 hours service every week.

Suzanne Richardson, area manager, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Mexborough and we are confident that this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.”

The consultation will close on September 18 before a final decision is made. Email your comments to comments@postoffice.co.uk
