People jealous of Epworth’s offerings

Jealousy of what Epworth offers its residents has been expressed by people from as far afield as Thorne, Buxton and Retford.

And that’s made town council chairman Coun Don Stewart very proud, he told members at their latest meeting.

“People from those places told me they wished they had parish and town councils like ours. They were amazed. They didn’t know our Christmas lights were organised by a voluntary group. I had two good hours listening to people. It would only be right of us to thank the Epworth Show Committee for all their hard work.”

Other members said the show had been helped by good weather, which had drawn the crowds, but Coun Mrs Jean Levesley was disappointed that not everyone from Epworth appeared to have attended. “There were lots of people from further afield,” she said.

And Coun Liz Redfern said the good weather had made it hard work in the horticulture tent. “But at least we didn’t have the same as last year, when someone ate the sausage rolls before they could be judged,” she said.

* North Lincolnshire Council still hasn’t received plans for the development of Epworth’s Holmes and Gardens on Belton Road, Coun Redfern said but there would be ample time for everyone to express their views.
