Plans to change a former Swinton working mens club into a shop could bring 12 new jobs into the area.

Rotherham Council has recommended approval today of a planning application for change of use of the former Bowbroom Working Mens Club to retail space for a convenience foodstore operator.

The development of the former club on Thomas Street, which closed two years ago would include a new shop front, access ramps, gates and car parking.

The applicant said development would significantly improve the current appearance of the site and enhance the character and appearance of the immediate vicinity.

Six letters were received objecting to the plan, raising concerns over a possible increase in traffic, noise, and its effect on existing shops.
