POLICE have named a Hoyland man who died in a three-vehicle crash on the Stocksbridge bypass.

Mark Pickering, 47, died along with Daniel Smith, 27, from Langold, near Worksop, at 6.12am on June 22.

An Astra car being driven by Mr Smith was believed to have been overtaking on the three-lane road when it collided head-on with Mr Pickering’s Ford transit van. A Rover car was then also involved in the accident.

ARSONISTS damaged a wooden garage on an estate in Elsecar after torching a pile of rubbish close by.

Firefighters were called to Welland Crescent on Monday at 9pm after the blaze spread to the garage, scorching its doors.

Crews from Tankersley spent half-an-hour putting out the flames which they are treating as deliberate.

WOMBWELL Gala will take place on Saturday, July 2, along the length of High Street. Rockingham Band will provide music, and there will be rides, stalls and games from 10am to 4pm.

The event has been organised by the Wombwell High Street committee.

A Lotto jackpot prize of £1,158,038 has yet to be claimed, from a ticket bought in the town for the draw of Saturday, June 11. The winner has until December 8 to stake their claim – after which the cash will go into the Lotto Good Causes pot.
