Old Market Hall open after Doncaster Council’s under-age drink “stings” Wetherspoons £50,000 in legal costs, the chain’s boss has revealed.
Despite the council abandoning their case on the morning of the hearing, in the wake of a fierce Times campaign, Spoons chairman Tim Martin revealed the huge bill in pub magazine Wetherspoon News.
Mr Martin again praised the Times but went on to write: “It’s difficult to understand the exact motivation of the local authority in this case – especially since at least one other pub in the town also fell victim to a similar sting operation, but, unlike Wetherspoon, steps were not taken to review its licence”.
