THE mum of Doncaster pop star Louis Tomlinson has spoken of her shock after she was told her son had been hurt in a crash.

The 20-year-former Hall Cross School pupil was injured when a people carrier in which he was riding with fellow members of his chart-topping group One Direction was involved in a collision.

He suffered whiplash and back injuries in the collision, but the group is still fit enough to carry on with its UK tour despite the crash.

It happened in Birmingham, after the group, which was one of the main success stories to come out of 2010’s X Factor, returned after a show in the city.

It is understood the band’s vehicle was stationary at traffic lights when it was hit by a vehicle travelling at about 40mph.

The group was checked out in hospital but all five singers were fit enough to perform in Plymouth later the same day.

Louis’s mum Johannah, of Stoops Lane, Bessacarr, said she received a late night phone call from the group’s management, who wanted to make sure they spoke to her before she heard anything anywhere else.

She said: “He was miles away from me and my first thought was to get in the car. But it was their tour manager, and I trust him.

“I spoke to Louis the following morning after he had got a night’s sleep on their tour bus.

“He said he was fine. I’ve now seen him in Nottingham. I gave him a really big hug. It is every mum’s nightmare to get a call like that in the middle of the night.”

Louis is seeing an osteopath for his injuries, and is having a massage before his shows following the collision on January 5.

The group’s 21-date tour is due in South Yorkshire on January 20 for a date at Sheffield City Hall.

Their debut single What Makes You Beautiful went straight to number one last year.
