Brazen metal thieves who pinched telephone cables from a Goldthorpe industrial estate by chopping them off a telegraph pole, are being hunted by police.
The thieves struck overnight last month, on Commerical Road.
Two days earlier, thieves raided Main Street in the town, and snipped through electric cable outside houses.
Now Dearne SNT have launched “Operation Barbados Three”, with electricity company YEDL and BT.
Insp Alan Simpson said: “To the police, this is simply unacceptable and there can be no excuse for stealing people’s property of any description”.
Police will now make night-time patrols in the area.
A YEDL spokesman said: “There is a great deal of danger in the theft of these cables both to members of the public and those taking the metal.
“Cutting and leaving live cables exposed poses an enormous risk, as it can be extremely dangerous to those who walk past.”
