A LOCAL author is launching her new baking recipe book at a restaurant in Wath-upon-Dearne.
Meryl White, originally from Bolton-upon-Dearne, will launch ‘Grandma Abson’s Traditional Baking’ at the Griffin Restaurant in Dearne Valley College’s Rockingham Centre.
When her Grandma Elizabeth Abson died in 1977, she collected the recipes written on scraps of paper and in old exercise books and created a booklet of recipes.
That was launched in 1982, and distributed through local bookstores – but the recent revival of interest in baking prompted Meryl to look again at Grandma’s legacy some 30 years on and organise a re-launch of the book.
On the launch day, Friday, June 10, current catering and hospitality students will make bakery delights from the recipe book in the restaurant.
Meryl said: “Putting Grandma Abson’s Traditional Baking book together has been a real labour of love.
“I love baking and, better still, my family and friends love eating what I bake!
“I am delighted that Dearne Valley College is hosting Grandma Abson’s book launch, so close to where she lived and worked.
“I’m looking forward to a splendid celebration of traditional baking.”
Meryl’s recipe book will be available from YPD Books, priced at £10.99 per copy.
