A masked man threatened a shop worker with a gun before stealing money from a Sheffield convenience store.

The incident happened at around 7.20pm on Friday at Newman Off Licence, Newman Road, Wincobank.

The man threatened the shop owner with the gun, believed to be an imitation, before making several attempts to steal the till and fleeing the store with a quantity of cash.

A police spokesman said: “At around 7.20pm on Friday 8 January it was reported that a masked man walked into Newman Off Licence in Newman Road, Wincobank, holding a gun with a laser on it.

“The man was reported to have threatened a shop worker with the gun, which is believed to be an imitation, and made several attempts to grab the till before taking a quantity of cash.

“The man was reported to have then thrown the till at the shop owner before leaving on foot. It is believed that he left using an alleyway that leads to Barkby Road.

“The man is described as around 5ft 10ins, wearing dark clothing, a light-coloured baseball cap and a ski mask. He spoke with a local accent.

“Were you in the area at the time? Did you see anything suspicious?

“Anyone with information should contact 101 quoting incident number 883 of January 8 2016.”
