A THURNSCOE man will receive an award on Monday for his bravery in saving a disabled man from his fire-ravaged flat.
Glen Howell of Peartree Avenue also rescued a second man from the blaze, that took hold at a block of flats on Peartree Avenue late in the evening of September 22.
Mr Howell had entered the building despite it being filled with thick, acrid smoke, and kept low to the ground to find and carry out an intoxicated, 33-year old disabled man from his flat.
The rescuer then returned inside the burning building to alert another resident, who was able to follow him out to safety.
The Chief Superintendent for Barnsley, Andy Brooke will present Mr Howell, 39, with a Commander’s Commendation in recognition of his courage and excellent public service.
