Man charged with attack on teenager in Rotherham

Police investigating an assault on a 16-year-old boy in Effingham Street, Rotherham, charged a man tonight.

Mark Smith, 32, of Fleming Way, Wickersley, Rotherham, has been charged with assault and remanded to appear at Rotherham Magistrates’ Court court on Friday.

Police were called to Effingham Street at 1.10pm on Wednesday following reports a 16-year-old boy had been assaulted.

The boy was taken to hospital with a head injury and has since been discharged.

Rotherham Inspector Martyn Sheldon said: “I continue to urge anyone who may have witnessed the and has yet to contact police, to come forward and speak to officers.

“The information you hold could be vital to this investigation, so please get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident number 480 of 9 September 2015.

There continues to be an increased police presence in the area this evening to provide reassurance to residents.
