A Doncaster village post office is set for a re-vamp, it has been revealed.

Scawthorpe Post Office, on Amersall Road, will close for two weeks – between August 1 and 12 – for refurbishments before reopening as what bosses describe as a “main style branch”.

The new-look branch will extend its opening hours by 43.5 a week, trading from 7.30am until 9pm, Monday to Sunday.

It is currently open from 9am until 5.30pm six days a week.

There will be four serving positions, which will be a mixture of one screened and two open-plan, with a post office serving point provided for use at the retail counter and available during shop opening hours.

Ed Miliband, who represents Doncaster North constituency, said: “It’s a useful resource for the community in and around Scawthorpe and I’m confident the improvements will be welcomed by people in the area.

“The extended opening hours will make the branch much more convenient and means people will soon be able to use the Post Office’s services before or after work.”

While the branch’s refurbishment is going on, the nearest alternative Post Offices are in Richmond Road, Sunnyfields, and High Street, Bentley.
