Youth Offending Service move scrapped
Doncaster Mayor Peter Davies
CONTROVERSIAL plans to move Doncaster Council’s Youth Offending Service have been sensationally scrapped after residents raised concerns.
Mayor Peter Davies made the dramatic decision to abandon moving the service from its current location of Rosemead House in Balby to the Carr House Centre in Bennetthorpe just a day after letters went out alerting residents to the proposal.
Mr Davies, said: “People have raised a lot of concerns directly to me regarding proposals to move our Youth Offending Service from its current location of Rosemead House in Balby to the Carr House Centre in September.
“I expected this decision to be going out to consultation as all other potential decisions do, and I am appalled that this has not occurred.
“The building where the service currently operates from is extremely expensive to maintain, and I am committed to ensuring we are reducing costs wherever possible in Children’s Services so that as much money as possible is going into front line services for the benefit of families in Doncaster.
“However, in light of the concerns raised I have decided existing proposals will not go ahead. Instead, I am asking Council Officers to review all other location options available.”
