Your chance to discuss new 'green path' through Dearne

DEARNE locals public have the chance to give their views on a proposed new pathway through the area.

Dearne Valley Green Heart have proposed a new cyclists' route, that would follow the disused railway from Highgate Lane to Carrfield Lane, running along the back of Goldthorpe Industrial Estate – and that could also be accessed by walkers and mobility scooter users.

Now the local community have been invited to informal drop-in sessions this month to have its say.

On Monday and Friday, February 9 and 13, staff from the Green Heart project will be at Goldthorpe Library to explain plans, answer questions and note comments from the public.

Green Heart Partnership project officer Stuart Jenkinson said: "We want to find out what people think about the proposed cycleway and if they have any ideas or suggestions to make sure it's a benefit for the local community.

"We believe that the involvement of local people is very important for the success of this project, and look forward to hearing people's views and ideas about the proposed cycleway at the sessions."

The partnership hopes to eventually extend the path to the River Dearne and the Trans Pennine Trail at the southern tip of Bolton-on-Dearne.

The project could be the first of many which make use of the several miles of disused railway lines that could be developed as pathways.
