A woman was seriously injured in a car crash in Wombwell.

The 31-year-old was behind the wheel of a silver Citroen Saxo that crashed into a wall off Wood Walk, ten metres from the junction with Woodlands View.

The force of the collision caused the vehicle to spin.

Paramedics and police officers rushed to the scene.

The woman was taken to Barnsley District General Hospital.

She was being treated there for serious injuries this week.

Police said no other vehicles were involved in the collision and no further injuries sustained.

The South Yorkshire force has not revealed what kind of injuries the woman suffered.

Detectives are seeking to establish how the vehicle was being driven prior to the accident and are appealing for witnesses to come forward with further information.

A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police said: “Any witnesses to the collision or manner of driving prior to the collision is asked to call 101 quoting incident number 984 of 28 May 2014.”

Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
