Warning to drivers not to leave vehicles unattended

editorial image

THREE vans have been reported stolen in Doncaster this week as drivers left their vehicles unattended while they called at homes and business premises.

Police are warning drivers to be aware of leaving keys in the ignition, even for a few minutes, as they are enticing opportunistic thieves.

Detective chief inspector Chris Singleton, force lead on car crime, said: “It may be tempting to leave a company car or van running whilst making a quick delivery but this makes the car vulnerable to being stolen.

“If the vehicle is stolen, you may face disciplinary action from your employer and lose the right to make an insurance claim as leaving the keys in the ignition could invalidate the insurance.”
