Warning over money scam

Doncaster Council is warning residents across Mexborough, Denaby and Conisbrough not to be duped by a money transfer scam.

Residents are notified by text, phone or email that they have won money in a lottery or have a forgotten insurance policy payout that has been discovered.

In order to receive their windfall, they have to purchase a Ukash voucher for around £150 and provide the number.

But the fraudsters cash the Ukash voucher and the money is never received by the unsuspecting resident.

Director of Regeneration and Environment Peter Dale said: “If something appears too good to be true then it probably is.

“People should be very wary of anyone asking for money up front, take time to establish whether an offer is genuine or not.

”For enquiries, information or complaints about Trading Standards issues please telephone the Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 08454 04 05 06.”
