The world’s last remaining flying Vulcan bomber has taken to the skies once more to kick start its summer season of displays.

XH558 took off from Robin Hood Airport this afternoon for flypasts in Welshpool and at RAF Cosford after a massive £1 million overhaul which has helped keep it airborne for another year.

Hundreds of spectactors turned out to catch a glimpse of the iconic delta wing aircraft as pilot Kev Rumens performed a rare ‘display” take-off as a treat for those watching.

The Free Press was given unprecedented behind the scenes access to see the preparations that go into gettin the bomber ready for flight - and experienced the sheer noise and power as it prepared to hurtle down the runway.
