POLICE from across Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster worked together this week on a three-day operation to target criminals in the Dearne.

A number of operations have taken place between Wednesday and today, Friday, including raids, patrols and sniffer dog searches for drugs.

Mounted officer patrols were also out in force along with initiatives to target vehicles that are known to be linked to crime.

Officers also offered crime prevention advice to the public.

Doncaster Chief Inspector Gwyn Thomas, Barnsley Chief Inspector Simon Wanless and Rotherham Chief Inspector Ian Womersley all led the operation on different days.

Ch Insp Thomas said: “This operation is about officers from Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster working more closely together in the Dearne area.

“Criminals travel and do not operate within boundaries. Swinton, Goldthorpe and Mexborough similar crimes are being committed by the same people.

“By joining our resources we are able to combat crime in the Dearne area much more effectively.”

Ch Insp Wanless added: “We hope that by being more visible in the Dearne area we are able to reassure the public that as a Force we are committed to tackling crimes in key areas and targeting criminals.”

And, Ch Insp Womersley said: “South Yorkshire Police will continue to share resources to not only bring offenders before the courts but seize their assets, which are often illegally gained.”
