The winner will be invited to show off their fantastic new bike at the festival, which will be on Sunday, June 1, ahead of The Grand Depart Yorkshire leg of the Tour de France on July 5 and 6.

Organiser Martin Maltby, owner of Don Valley Cycles in Cheqeur Road, is giving away the bike as preparations for the festival ramp up.

Matin, who is also president of Doncaster Wheelers Cycling Club, said: “The festival is now just a month away and we can’t wait for it.”

A full field of more than 400 riders are expected to take part in seven races on the day. More than 150 people have already signed up.

Around 3,000 spectators are expected to watch competitors tackle a closed 1km town centre circuit, which will start and finish at Sir Nigel Gresley Square.

Economists have already predicted the event could boost the town’s economy by £20 million.

Martin, 45, of Edenthorpe, who is also celebrating 20 years running Don Valley Cycles, said: “The support we have received has been phenomenal.

“This will be the first festival since the early 1980s and we want to make it an annual event.”
