UPDATE: Family confirm death of Rovers fan who collapsed during relegation game

A Doncaster Rovers fan who collapsed with an aneurysm during yesterday’s match in Leicester has died.

After approximately 20 minutes of treatment by paramedics the ‘avid Rovers supporter’ was rushed to the Leicester Royal Infirmary, but has since died.

The man has been named as Ray Dunning on Facebook, but this has not yet been confirmed by Leicestershire police.

Posting in a Doncaster Rovers fan group on Facebook, Ange Dunning said: “I would just like to thank you for your condolances for Ray. He was a long time drfc supporter and hardly missed a game over his lifetime. I’m his wife Ange and I was with him ystday at Leicester.”

Around 2,000 travelling Rovers fans were in the enclosure when he collapsed.

A supporter at the game said: “He seemed to collapse just after we heard about Birmingham winning and Rovers getting relegated. He looked like he was in a bad way.”

Tweeting after the game, Rovers midfielder David Cotterill said: ‘Relegation hurtful but the fan who lost his life today puts everything into perspective #drfc thoughts with all the family for their loss’.
