UEFA to be joking!
The world famous Grimethorpe Colliery Band
Barnsley MP Michael Dugher has blasted off an angry letter to Michel Platini... after learning in the TIMES how his Grimethorpe Colliery Band were brassed off the Wembley pitch for the Champions league final.
Last week, we revealed how the band – one of the world’s most famous, and the stars of the pit film Brassed Off – had thrown back an offer to play at the Man U – Barcelona clash... after being told they were ONLY needed to blow up on Wembley Way, outside the national stadium.
Now Mr Dugher has written to Mr Platini, criticising the snub and asking for the band to be invited to play on the pitch.
The Barnsley East MP, who is also the Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Chair for Brass Bands, said: “It seems like these European executives at UEFA haven’t got a clue.
“The Grimethorpe Colliery Band is world renowned, and to ask these great musicians to busk outside the stadium while fans wander past, is a real insult to this great British institution.”
