Tributes flood in for ‘avid Rovers fan’ Ray Dunning

Tributes have begun to pour in for a devoted Rovers fan, who died after collapsing with an aneruysm at Saturday’s match against Leicester.

Ray Dunning, 42, collapsed towards the end of the game at the King Power Stadium.

Medics were seen rushing up the stairway of the away fans seating enclosure to treat him.

After around 20 minutes of treatment the ‘avid Rovers supporter’ was rushed to the Leicester Royal Infirmary but he has since died.

Wife, Ange Dunning wrote on a Doncaster Rovers fan group on Facebook: “I would just like to thank you for your condolences for Ray.”

He was a long-time DRFC supporter and hardly missed a game over his lifetime. I’m his wife Ange and I was with him yesterday at Leicester. Ange and family.”

A spokesperson for Doncaster Rovers said: “Doncaster Rovers would like to express our deepest sympathies and condolences to the family and friends of Ray Dunning, the Doncaster Rovers supporter who, it has been confirmed, died on Saturday.

An avid follower over the years, Ray was taken ill whilst attending the Sky Bet Championship fixture between Leicester City and Doncaster Rovers at the King Power Stadium, Leicester on May 3rd 2014.

The thoughts of everyone at the Club are with his family, who have sent their thanks to the Doncaster Rovers fans for their efforts inside the stadium and the messages of support they have received.”

Tweeting after the game, Rovers midfielder David Cotterill said: “Relegation hurtful but the fan who lost his life today puts everything into perspective. #drfc thoughts with all the family for their loss.”

Defender Paul Quinn also paid tribute to Mr Dunning on Twitter: “Ray Dunning RIP, to the Dunning family if anything I can do or help with please get in touch with me.”

Said Rovers midfielder Dean Furman “All our thoughts and prayers with the family and friends of the DRFC fan who sadly lost his life today. Such awful news.”

Hundreds of people have also paid tribute to Mr Dunning on social media.
