YOUNG people are showing not all graffiti is bad by exhibiting a series of picturesque scenes created with a spraycan.

Teenagers attending graffiti classes at Swinton Lock Activity Centre showed their artisitc flair in a competition to find the best paintings.

Josh Fothergill, from Winterhill Comprehensive School in Rotherham, won first prize for his striking cityscape painting.

Lewis Green, from Grasmere School in Barnsley, claimed second place and Billy Lees, from Thrybergh School and Sports College, was third.

The entries are now displayed in the centre’s Exhibition Gallery.

Centre manager Ruth Midgley said: “Our Spraycan Art classes aim to improve young people’s creative talent not to encourage vandalism or unattractive tagging that so often gets the art a bad name.”

“The art on show at the centre is very impressive and shows young people have worked hard to develop their artistic skills through this media.”

The Graffiti Exhibition is open to the public until February 24.
