Students and staff finally returned to the classroom today after storms ripped off their school roof in the run up to Christmas.

The Hayfield School in Auckley took the brunt of the 90mph winds which hit Britain on December 5, meaning 700 of the 1,100 pupils had to break up for the festive holiday a fortnight early.

Headteacher Ms Maria Rock said teams had worked tirelessly, only having Christmas and New Year’s Day off, to make sure the school could return as planned today (Monday).
