Engineering students from Doncaster College visited one of the world’s largest steel companies, Tata Steel, to watch and learn how alloy metal is manufactured.
Youngsters visited the firm’s Sheffield plant to witness the production of steel that features in industries including Formula One motor racing.
Lecturer Colin Eglan, who accompanied them on the visit, said: “Students were impressed with the sight and sounds within the steelworks.
“It was the first time many of them had encountered heavy engineering at its best.
“Students were enthused with what they saw, with many using the first opportunity to put applications in to try to achieve an apprenticeship for next year.”
