OLYMPIAN Sarah Stevenson will be on hand to celebrate the completion of a new centre for young people in her hometown.

The tae kwon do ace will join mayor Peter Davies and torchbearer Steve Keast for the special official launch of the Bentley myplace Young People’s Centre during an Olympic-themed fair today at Bentley Pavilion.

A totem pole designed by youngsters will also be unveiled to mark the completion of the new facility which is based next to the pavilion in Askern Road and offers people the chance to socialise, play and learn.

GB Olympic hopeful Sarah, who grew up in Ayton Walk, said: “I have lived in Bentley all my life and it is an honour to be at the opening of the new centre.

“A lot of my friends and family will be there today to see the official opening and will also be using the amazing facilities in the future, we are very lucky to have this investment made in Bentley area.

“It is also a fantastic opportunity for the people of Doncaster to get up close to the Olympic Torch.

“I am looking forward to my fourth Olympics in London and am looking to make the people of Doncaster proud.”

The council’s £5 million myplace project has been funded by the Big Lottery Fund and a second centre is about to open in Denaby.

Join today’s Bentley Bonanza event which takes place between 1pm and 5pm.
