Special service at DRI for those who have lost babies

Doncaster Royal Infirmary is holding a special ‘memories service’ next Sunday for families who have experienced the death of a baby.

Anyone who has been affected by the loss of a baby either during pregnancy, at birth or shortly afterwards is invited to attend at 2.30pm on Sunday, June 22.

In past services parents have attended to remember a recent loss and other families come to remember a baby who died some years ago.

Carol Lee, Bereavement Support Midwife, said: “The special memories services offer parents, families and friends the opportunity to remember their babies and to meet with others who have experienced a similar loss.”

The service at Doncaster Royal Infirmary takes place in the main Outpatient Department (near the Emergency Department) and will be conducted by Chaplaincy Manager Clive Smith. Refreshments will be served afterwards.

There is also a ‘baby remembrance book’ in the Chapel at Doncaster Royal Infirmary. The individual inscriptions are hand crafted with illustrations and families receive a personal copy of their baby’s entry. There is also the opportunity to complete a rainbow card as an act of remembrance.
