Speak out about Adult Social Care in Barnsley

DEARNE residents can read about Barnsley Council’s future plans for Adult Social Care in a newly published report.

The report, named ‘Care and Support for Adults’ shows how the Adult Social Care Services are meeting the needs of people across the borough, with the resources that are available.

Despite the challenging financial environment there are some improvements to services, said a council spokeswoman. And plans for the future include ‘providing more people with direct payments, preventing the need for people to enter care homes by increasing help after a stay in hospital, and improving the quality of all care services’.

The Coalition Government abolished the previous reliance on inspections to determine how well the service is doing. It has been replaced by the Local Account, which makes the council more directly accountable to residents for its performance. A full copy of the Care and Support for Adults - Local Account 2011/12 report is available to download at http://beta.barnsley.gov.uk/media/2623180/local_account_2012_6.pdf

The council would like to hear residents’ views on this publication, and whether or not it is informative and helpful. All comments received will help shape future publications.

Comment on the Local Account by reading the report and filling in the Local Account Reply Form and emailing it to socialservices@barnsley.gov.uk. Alternatively, you can contact the council for a paper copy of the report or if you need a version in a different format.

Coun Jenny Platts, Cabinet spokesperson for Adults and Communities, said: “The Local Account provides an opportunity for the people of Barnsley to make their own judgements about how services are performing, if they are delivering value for money and whether our future plans make sense.

“Receiving feedback from those who use our services can help us to continually improve how we are supporting vulnerable people within the borough and to incorporate those views into our priorities.”
