Spate of arson attacks sweep Dearne towns
ARSONISTS have been blamed for causing three fires in a matter of hours across the Dearne.
The first blaze happened at a scrap yard on White Lee Road in Mexborough at 2.40pm on Thursday, September 6.
A crew from Dearne Fire Station attended and spent more than two hours tackling the blaze with water jets.
A brigade spokesman said: “Fireifghters had to turn over some of the pallets to get to the hot spots.”
The next incident happened in Hoyland when a blaze swept through a corn field off Stead Lane at 4.10pm.
A second Dearne crew were called to attend and spent over an hour at the scene.
Crews from Dearne and Adwick stations were then alerted to a derelict caravan fire in Highgate, Goldthorpe. They arrived at 8.20pm and spent about 30 minutes at the scene.
A brigade spokesman said all three fires were started deliberatelty.
