SLIDESHOW: Christmas cheer at festive light night

Waiting for Video...

hundreds of people braved the cold and turned out to see Olympic hero Sarah Stevenson turn on the spectacular Christmas lights.

The Bentley tae kwon do champ flicked the switch on the town’s festive illuminations in the ceremony at Clock Corner which drew in young and old alike.

Shoppers braved the conditions to catch a glimpse of the sporting star who battled for gold in this year’s London 2012 Olympic Games, despite losing both her parents to cancer in the last 18 months.

And although she was unable to add to the bronze she won at the Beijing games in 2008, the 29-year-old shone as she lined up alongside mayor Peter Davies, Doncaster Rovers players and a host of singers and dancers at the annual spectacular.

Crowds gathered from 4pm to enjoy a feast of live entertainment before the switch was flicked on the lights which stretch down High Street, Hall Gate, Baxtergate and the Market Place as well as other side streets around the town centre. Rovers’ stars also mixed with the crowd and club mascot Donny Dog was on hand to pose for pictures.
