Skatepark on the way for Rosehill
A LONG-awaited skate park for Rawmarsh could become a reality soon.
Teens who want to perfect their ollies and nollies on state-of-the-art ramps and railstands in Rosehill Park may not have to wait much longer.
A cash allocation of between 50,000-100,000 is earmarked for the children's play area in the park, from the Play Pathfinder scheme, and is one of 29 sites across Rotherham to benefit this year.
But it is hoped Rawmarsh may also gain some spin-off from extensive work being done at Clifton Park, with skate ramps there that are bolted to the floor, possibly being re-sited at Rosehill.
Coun Shaun Wright has been working towards the new facility of a skate park for some time.
He told the Times: "Funding should come through from community monies for a skate park base next year. It would seem sensible if redundant equipment from Clifton Park should become available that we make use of it.
"But we would also want new facilities and it's clear that the skating fans in Rawmarsh want the proper ramps and a wall to work on - and it doesn't come cheap.
"We'll need another 60-70,000, but we will get it. I'm determined to see this one through and we are currently looking at every means available to pull in the necessary cash."
