Safety warning over school gate parking
POLICE are urging parents in the Dearne to help keep their children safe by not parking outside the school gates.
Officers from the South Yorkshire Safer Roads Partnership, PCSO’s and Pc’s will be giving advice to parents and guardians outside primary schools across the area in a bid to ease congestion at the school gate.
They will be encouraging parents to walk to school with their children and set out ways in which drivers can make the roads outside schools safer for children.
Such measures include avoiding parking on zig zags, pavements and always stop for school crossing patrols.
Parents are also urged to choose a safe place to cross with their children and wear bright clothing so motorists can see you.
Superintendent Eddie Murphy said: “Drivers should pay particular attention when driving outside schools and be alert for pedestrians crossing the road between parked cars,
“Always drive within the speed limit and to suit the road conditions. Let’s make sure that our children can get to school in safety.
“Remember that a vehicle can be a deadly weapon and the consequences of a traffic collision can be devastating for everyone involved.”
