Runners beat the rain - picture gallery

IT’S not often you will see a tiger being chased through the streets of Doncaster - but that was one of the sights at this year’s town centre road race and fun run.

More than 340 runners took part in the main race with another 211 taking part in a fun run, with dozens donning wigs, fancy dress and other unusual running attire as they took part in the dash through the town centre.

Fourteen-year-old Callum Wilson, a member of Doncaster Athletics Club, won the one-mile family fun run in a time of five minutes and 53 seconds.

Race organiser Mark Hudson said: “It’s the biggest entry in the fun run for several years. It’s been manic. We’ve been extremely lucky with the weather, especially compared with last month’s Sandall Beat 10k Trail Race, where numbers were badly depleted by the wet weather. We also had to call off the new Brodsworth race.”

The fun run was the pre-cursor to the main five kilometre race and veterans event. The race is now in its 19th year and was organised by Doncaster Athletics Club.
