Child sexual exploitation victims in Rotherham could receive around £100,000 each in compensation for the abuse they suffered, a lawyer leading legal action has said.
David Greenwood, of Switalskis Solicitors, which is representing 18 abused girls, said the six-figure estimate is based on previous payouts made in other cases around the country.
He has previously said he is hopeful out-of-court settlements can be negotiated following the publication of the damning Jay report earlier this week. Three more abuse victims have come forward this week, in addition to the firm’s 15 existing clients.
Legal action is being started against Rotherham Borough Council and South Yorkshire Police.
Mr Greenwood said: “The victims could be compensated on average by around £100,000.”
