Rosie Winterton has won a top award.
The Doncaster Central MP has been named Shadow Minister of the Year by Asian Voice magazine.
She was presented with the award by Betty Boothroyd, former speaker of the House of Commons, at the annual Public and Political Life ceremony, held at the House of Commons.
The winners of the awards, in its ninth year, were voted for by readers of the magazine, which is the biggest Asian newspaper in Europe.
Rosie said: “I was absolutely delighted to receive the award and I’d like to thank the readers of Asian Voice for their support.”
Others honoured by the Asian community included Sam Bailey, winner of this year’s X-Factor, who was named Breakthrough Woman of the Year and aspiring politician and The Voice star Jermain Jackman, who was awarded Breakthrough Man.
The Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Moira Stuart, the BBC News presenter.
MP Keith Vaz hosted the awards.
He said: “Each year, the Asian community pays tribute to those who have made a special contribution to our public and political life.”
