Radio host returns to the studio

Mexborough man Steve White has just become the new drivetime presenter at Hallam FM.

A MEXBOROUGH lad who was a guest presenter as a schoolboy at Hallam FM has returned to the station as a full-time show host.

Steve White, 30, presented his first show in 1992 at the tender age of ten after being invited to co-host the then breakfast show with Dave Kilner.

His opportunity came about after he wrote to the then programme director Steve King and asked to be a co-host of his After School Show.

Instead they let him loose on the morning show and the radio bug has stuck with him ever since.

Twenty years on, the former Dearne High School pupil has moved from BBC Radio Sheffield to fulfil his childhood dream and join Hallam FM as the new host of the drive time show.

He said: “It is so weird to be back in the very same Hallam FM studio that I visited as a kid and presenting on the radio station I grew up listening to.

“Excited doesn’t even cover it!”

He added: “I’m South Yorkshire through and through. I was born in Mexborough and grew up in and around Barnsley and the Dearne Valley.

“I live in Barnsley but know Sheffield, Rotherham and Doncaster inside out.”

Owen Ryan, programme director of Hallam FM, added that the station was thrilled to have a new talent on board.

He said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming Steve to our Hallam team.

“Steve’s love for Hallam FM and South Yorkshire and the fact that he’s born and bred in the region makes him the perfect addition to a team that is passionate about super serving the people of Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster.”

You can hear Steve on the airwaves Monday to Friday from 3-7pm.
