Popular family restaurant shuts

ONE of Doncaster’s oldest Italian restaurants has closed its doors.
Carlo’s Restaurant and Pizzeria had been in Nether Hall Road since 1979 and was one of the town’s most popular family run eateries.
But now the restaurant is filled with stacked tables and empty boxes, rather than customers.
Liberty Bar and Grill co-owner David McEvoy, said the closure was a ‘sad day for the people of Doncaster.’
He said: “It’s the end of a real Doncaster institution.
“It is just sad that this has happened.
“It has to be one of Doncaster’s oldest restaurants and is a real shame for the people of Doncaster that it has gone.”
The businesses website, which is still running, describes the restaurant, as: “a family business with both son and daughter of the proprietor working to ensure that the business runs smoothly and the very highest standard of service is given to all our customers.
“Our regular diners say it makes the difference between a good meal and a great one.”
Over the years the owners had developed the property, opening a cellar restaurant in 1984, with a further expansion in 1991.
Commercial lettings agents PPH is now in charge of finding a new tenant and has confirmed that the previous proprietors had left the building.
The letting agents has described the site as ‘a traditional mid-terrace property fitted out to good specification.’
Neighbours in Nether Hall Road told the Free Press the restaurant had shut at the end of last week, but had not been told why it had closed its doors.
